KEETCH "DELIGHTED" BY PLANNING COMMITTEE APPROVAL FOR ASDA DEVELOPMENT

Paul Keetch, Lib Dem MP for Hereford has said that he is "delighted" that the Liberal Democrat dominated Central Area Planning Committee has chosen to approve the proposed Asda development at Belmont, despite opposition from Conservative and Independent councillors.

"I fully expect that this application will now be called in by the Secretary of State for the Regions, John Prescott," Mr Keetch said. "I will be writing to Mr Prescott tomorrow expressing my support for the application and the local Lib Dems will be launching a petition in support of this important development.

"I hope that all the people of Hereford can unite behind this proposal. There are always differences of opinion on planning issues of this scale, but I believe that this development and the investment that it will put into Hereford will be hugely beneficial to the city."
