KEETCH DELIGHTED BY NEWS OF ASDA GO AHEAD

4.23.54pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 25th May 2004

The MP for Hereford, Paul Keetch, has been advised today that the Government have referred the planning application for the Asda development south of Hereford City back to Herefordshire Council for determination.

Mr Keetch commented, "After such bad news for the City of Hereford recently, including increased costs of the Rotherwas Access Road and Council Tax capping, I was very pleased to be informed by the Government today that they have no objection to the Asda development going ahead.

"This is not only good news for the development itself but is crucial for the contribution the developers will make to Hereford's proposed flood defence scheme.

"I have arranged to meet the developers tomorrow and will be seeking an urgent meeting also with the Floods Minister, Elliot Morley, to discuss with him and the developers how this could assist in our bid for the funding and implementation of the flood defence scheme," Mr Keetch added.
