KEETCH ASKS MINISTER TO ASSURE ROSS FLOOD SCHEME FUNDING2.40.46pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 5th Sep 2006
Hereford MP Paul Keetch, has invited Ian Pearson MP, DEFRA's Minister of State with responsibility for flood and coastal defences, to visit Herefordshire to see for himself the urgent need for the long-awaited Ross Flood Alleviation Scheme. "I am aware that the Ross scheme being advanced by the Council retains its status as an approved scheme but has not yet secured funding," Mr Keetch said. "I have therefore asked the Minister to pay a visit to my constituency to see how vital the scheme is and to take account of my constituents' fears should the scheme be further delayed due to lack of funding. "I have already received assurances from the Chief Executive of the Environment Agency that Agency staff continue to work with Herefordshire Council and DEFRA to secure funding to allow the scheme to commence. With Ministerial support the scheme might begin sooner than presently anticipated."
