MP ENCOURAGES LOCAL BUSINESSES TO BECOME PART OF 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES11.19.27am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 13th Aug 2008
As the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games is underway, Hereford's Liberal Democrat MP Paul Keetch is urging local businesses to become involved in the preparations for the London 2012 Games by registering their services with CompeteFor, the chosen site of the publication of Games related contract opportunities. Commenting on the site the MP said, "CompeteFor acts as a brokerage service between buyers throughout the London 2012 supply chain, and potential suppliers. CompeteFor also provides access to business support services; building skills and capacity to ensure that businesses across the UK can access opportunities linked to the hosting of the London 2012 Games." Continuing, Paul Keetch said, "I believe that it is imperative that Herefordshire's businesses do not miss out on this fantastic opportunity to become involved in the Games and am pleased to recommend CompeteFor for just that purpose." "1753 West Midlands businesses have already registered with CompeteFor," the MP goes on, "And I am keen for Herefordshire businesses to be well represented as this number increases. Earlier this year the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games [LOCOG] announced that Hereford's Royal National College for the Blind had been successful in their application to be included in the official London 2012 Pre-Games Training Camp Guide. Hosting the training camp coupled with the potential involvement of local businesses will be a great way for the region to feel the benefits of the Games and to share in the excitement in the build up to 2012."
